Working Standards & Terms
1. Preparation & Finish Standards
All work is carried out in accordance with the agreed Scope of Works.
Interior woodwork will be prepared, filled where necessary, sanded and caulked prior to application of the specified finish. Walls will be filled, sanded and coated as agreed. Exterior timber and masonry will be prepared using appropriate exterior-grade materials before finishing coats are applied.
The quality of the final finish is directly related to the condition of the underlying surfaces. Where previously applied coatings, structural movement, or substrate defects limit the achievable result, this will be discussed prior to commencement where reasonably identifiable.
2. Booking & Payment
A deposit secures the agreed start date and confirms acceptance of the Scope of Works and associated terms.
Labour is quoted as a fixed price unless otherwise stated. Payments are drawn down against the fixed total on a weekly basis, with the balance settled upon completion.
Materials are excluded from the labour total unless specified.
3. Variations & Additional Work
Any work not detailed within the agreed Scope of Works will be treated as a variation and priced separately before commencement.
No additional work will proceed without prior agreement.
4. Materials
Paint finishes and colours must be confirmed prior to commencement in each area.
Where materials are purchased on the client’s behalf, an outline of material costs will be provided.
Trade discounts may be applied where applicable.
5. Timber Movement & Natural Materials
Timber is a natural material and will expand and contract in response to seasonal temperature and humidity changes. As a result, minor joint movement, hairline cracking or mitre separation may occur over time. This is an inherent characteristic of timber and is not considered a defect in workmanship.
6. Exterior Maintenance
Exterior finishes are subject to weather exposure, UV light and environmental conditions. To maintain protection and appearance, external timber and masonry surfaces typically benefit from inspection and maintenance redecoration approximately every 4–5 years, depending on exposure and condition.
This recommendation reflects ongoing property maintenance rather than a limitation of workmanship.
7. Snagging
Snagging will be carried out once per completed area. Clients are requested to review each area thoroughly prior to snagging. Repeat snagging of the same area is not included unless previously agreed.
8. Client Responsibilities
Clients are responsible for providing reasonable access to all work areas, removing fragile items and wall-mounted objects prior to commencement, arranging movement of unusually heavy items unless otherwise agreed, and providing parking permits where required.
Keys provided for access are held securely for the duration of the project.
9. Scheduling
Project duration estimates are provided in good faith but may be affected by unforeseen conditions, variations or drying times.
Typical working hours are between 8–9am and 4–5pm unless otherwise agreed.
